In the final game of the OSU Mid-Summer Classic Chaffey defeated Central Oregon 13-8 to go undefeated in the Mid-Summer Classic.
Chaffey scored 5-runs in the top of the 1st inning. Drew Serres singled to lead the game off, Bryce Steckler was hit-by-a-pitch and Andy Atwood followed with a single to load the bases. Zach Nussbaum tripled off the wall in right center clearing the bases. Milo Mincin then double into left scoring Zach and Trevor Cook singled Milo home to give Chaffey the 5-0 lead. Bryce and Milo each went 3-for-4 for the game to lead Chaffey on the offensive side.
Oregon came back in the bottom of the 4th and scored 2-runs to cut the lead to 5-2. In the top of the 5th Chaffey added a single run when Bryce tripled into dead center and scored on Andy’s sac-fly into left. In the bottom of the 5th Oregon came right back and scored 5-runs to take a 7-6 lead.
Chaffey followed in the top of the 7th scoring 2-runs, Drew led off with a base-on-balls and Bryce singled up the middle. On a double steal both moved up one base and then Ben Dmochowsky singled in both Drew and Bryce giving Chaffey a 1-run lead. The lead only lasted ½-an inning when Oregon came back and scored in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 8th Chaffey lead the inning off with 5-straight hits. Cookie doubled into right center and David Johnson singled into left scoring Cookie. Michael Petrie and Drew hit back to back singles to load the bases and Bryce tripled into left center clearing the bases and giving Chaffey a 4-run lead. Andy hit a sac-fly into left scoring Bryce for Chaffey’s final run and a 13-8 win. Cookie, Michael and Drew also had multiple hit games with both going 2-for-4 for the game. Chaffey had 16 hits for the 8-inning game with all starter getting a hit.
Lucas Chapman threw the first 4-innings only allowing 2-hits and giving up 2-runs. Jason Shevenko threw the next 3-innings with Tanner Simpson coming on in the 8th-inning to close the game out.
