Chaffey opened the 2004 season taking two from the Bellingham Legioin 15-1 and 13-9.
Bradley Boyer opened up the game with a triple into right and scored on Kyle Gilberts bunt single down the third-baseline. Bradley went 3-for-4 with a triple and double.
Stephen Englund hit a solo-home run to give Chaffey a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
With one out in the third Trevor Peterson singled into left and Kevin Corrigan drew a base on balls, Bryce Anderson doubled into right center scoring Trevor and moving Kevin into third, Jake Beattiger reached first on an error by the short stop scoring Kevin from third, and moving Bryce over to third, Stephen Englund singled into right center scoring both Bryce and Jake, Stephen stole second and scored on an infield single by Mason Schlenker, Mason stole second and scored Chaffey’s sixth run of the inning on Bradley Boyer’s double into center; extending Chaffey’s lead 8-1 Stephen went 2-for-2 with three rbi’s for the game.
In th bottom of the four Chaffey put four more runs on the board with back to back singles by Trevor Peterson and Kevin Corrigan, Bryce Anderson came to the plate hitting his second double of the game scoring both Trevor and Kevin, Jake Beattiger and Stephen Englund both walked to load the bases when Kyle Toregson hit fielders choice to third with Bryce being thrown out at the plate, Mason Schlenker drew a walk forcing Jake in, Bradley Boyer singled into left scoring both
Stephen and Kyle, Kyle Gilbert hit a ball into the hole at 2nd that was mis-played scoring Mason and Chaffey’s final run of the inning came off of Trevor Peterson’s single inot left scoring Kyle. With the final score at 15-1. Trevor Peterson also w2ent 3-for-4 for the game.
Joey Hagen threw the first 4-innings striking out seven batters and only allowing 4 hits when Sayre Peralta came in to close the game.
Chaffey fell behind 4-0 after the top of the 1st, when Bradley Boyer lead off the bottom of 1st being hit by a pitch, Trevor Peterson drew a walk and Kevin Corrigan tripled into dead center scoring both Bradly and Trevor, Bryce Anderson singled up the middle to pull Chaffey within 1-run at 4-3. Trevor Peterson continued his hot bat going 2-for-3 with 4-rbi’s and 3-runs scored. Chaffey put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the second when Bradley Boyer lead off with a single and stole second, Kyle Gilbert drew a walk and both advanced on a pass ball, Trevor came to the plate and hit a three run homer into over the score board in left to give Chaffey a 7-4 lead.
Bellingham put five on the board in the top of hte fourth to take 2-run lead. With two outs in the bottom of the inning Jake Beattiger singled into right and was wild-pitched into second and scored on Kyle Torgeson’s single into left to pull Chaffey within one run at 9-8.
Trevor Peterson singled into left with one out when Kevin Corrigan came to the plate an homered into right center to give Chaffey back the lead at 10-9, Kevin was 2-for-5 with a triple and homerun and 3-rbi’s.
Chaffey scored it’s final 3-runs in the bottom of the seventh when Brandon Howard drew a walk, Bradley Boyer was hit by a pitch when Jake Beattiger came to the plate and tripled into right center scoring both Brandon and Bradley, Jake score Chaffey’s final run on a sac-fly into left by Trevor Peterson.
Matt Raff threw the first three inning, Andrew Pass threw the four and fifth innings, with Lars Knepper and Ian Harrington coming into close out the game.
Chaffey plays a double header tomorrow morning at 8:00AM and 10:30AM at the UW against Walla Walla Legion. Reed Brown and Nicholas Haughian will be starters for Chaffey’s first home games of the season.
