Chaffey opened the Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament with a 5-4 win over Honda Baseball Club at Bellevue College.
Jimmy Boyce threw the first 2-innings of the game not allowing a runner to reach base. Quinn Gleed threw the next 4-2/3 innings not allowing an earned run. Michael Petrie came in and threw the last out of the game with a pop up to 1st-base.
Chaffey scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd. Zach Nussbaum doubled into left and advanced to 3rd on Carson Ryder’s single into right. Zach scored on a fielder’s choice by Trey Tiffany to take a 1-0 lead. Zach finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double.
Honda came right back and knotted the game at 1-a piece in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom of the inning Chaffey added 3-runs. Jack Smith reach base on an error and stole 2nd. Colton Bunt then singled scoring Jack and stole 2nd. Matt Gretler tripled off the wall in left center scoring Colton and then scored when Zach singled into right extending Chaffey’s lead to 4-1.
Chaffey added its final run in the bottom of the 6th. Carson Ryder drew a walk. Trey Tiffany singled into left followed by Brandon Mitchell drawing a walk to load the bases. Jack hit a sac-fly into left scoring Carson for Chaffey’s 5th-run of the game.
Honda came back in the top of the 7th scoring 3-runs before Michael Petrie came in and closed the game out for the save.
