Oregon State senior left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd and sophomore outfielder Michael Conforto led third-ranked Beavers to a sweep of 20th-ranked Arizona over the weekend.
On Tuesday, the duo produced another sweep.
Boyd was named the Pac-12 Conference’s Pitcher of the Week and Conforto the league’s player of the week. It’s the first sweep of the Pac-12′s weekly awards for the Beavers since 2006 when Mitch Canham (player) and Dallas Buck (pitcher) were honored on May 23.
Both Michael and Matt picked up their second honor of the season Tuesday.
Conforto, meanwhile, capped off his five-game week with a home run Sunday that gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead en route to an 8-4 win over the Wildcats, which OSU its first-ever sweep in Tucson. He finished the week 8-for-19 (.421) with two home runs and four RBI. His first home run of the weekend came in the first inning Friday night against Arizona. The three-run shot helped pace OSU to the 6-2 win.
Conforto leads the team with a .380 batting average and has a team-leading six home runs with 21 RBI. The six home runs also leads the Pac-12 while his 21 RBI are good for third.
The Beavers have three Pac-12 Player of the Week honors this season, giving them 63 all-time. OSU, meanwhile, has two pitcher of the week awards, placing the club at 68 all-time.
