The holiday break saw our boys take advantage of two outstanding opportunities to work with two Elite Pac-12 Programs being hosted by Chaffey Baseball and Atkinson Baseball Academy, at Atkinson Baseball Academy.
The assistant coaches from Oregon State University came to town Monday December 21st and Tuesday December 22nd, hosting 3 separate clinics. First up, was our pitchers and catchers getting to work exclusively with Pitching Coach Nate Yeskie. When all the bullpens ended and catchers had taken the gear off Assistant Coach’s Andy Jenkins and Jake Rodriquez then ran infielders through a complex infield workout with many former Chaffey Players and current Beavers working as camp counselors. The following day all of our position players got to hit with Head Assistant Coach Pat Bailey, his speech on hitting was very insightful and his 1-on-1 work in the cages was a tremendous help to every player at the camp.
The following Sunday, December 27th the Head Coach at Washington State University, Marty Lees, came to Atkinson Baseball Academy for a full day of camp. Coach Lees began the day with a 2-hour infield camp for our Boys and the older NW Bandits players. The camp was run by Coach Lees with Chaffey and Bandit Coaches attending and helping as camp counselors. Coach Lees went through his 4-phases of infield play and showed a very impressive ability to use the space and resources provided. The infield camp saw each player get a high number of reps while being able to be coached up by Coach Lees. After a short lunch break Coach Lees ran a 2-½ hitting camp, the camp began with Coach Lees approach lecture, a very intricate and detailed yet easy to understand approach to hitting. After working through the approach the cages were set up for four groups and each player got a tremendous amount of swings while Coach Lees worked his way around the entire facility seeing everyone and giving his advice.
Former Chaffey and Bandit players attended both clinics to assist the coaches and help out as clinic counselors. Michael Conforto, Dylan Davis, Kyle Nobach, Trevor Morrison and Michael Gretler.
The boys could not have had greater opportunities over break, we would like to express thanks to both Oregon State University and Washington State University and the alumni for taking the time to come to our facility and work with our players!
