Zach Kimball pitching the first eight innings and Will Fenton pitching the last innings of the game over the Olympia Pepsi 4-3 to remain undefeated in World Series Play.
A better script could not have been written than to have Chaffey’s two eighteen year old pitchers combine for the win. After the first inning Zach threw seven shut-out innings before turning the game over to Will. In the top of the 11th with the game tied Will gave up a lead-off homerun before striking out the side bringing us back to the plate for our at bats.
Both Zach and Will where named Co-MVP’s for the game, striking out a combined 15 batters and spreading out 9 hits over the 11 innings.
Olympia scored two runs in the first, when in the bottom of the first Chris Minaker singled into left and stole second base, Billy Boyer hit a fielder choice moving Chris to third, Nick Hundley hit a sac-fly to left to score Chris and cut the lead to one.
In the bottom of the third Stan Nicholl singled into left and was bunted into second by John Addison, Stan than stole third and scored on Chris Minaker’s fielders choice to the short stop, with the infield playing back. Chris ended the game going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one run scored.
The game remained tied until the 11th when Olympia scored and took a one run lead, Nick Hundley lead off the bottom of the 11th with a double down the right field line, Nic Crosta came to the plate and drew a base on balls, Ben Mummy hit a chopper to the first basemen who attempted to throw out Nick at third-Nick slide safely but, the ball got away from the third basemen allowing Nick to score the tieing run, on the over throw Nic Crosta came into third from first and rounded the bag at third as the third basemen was picking up the overthrow-scoring on the throw from the third basemen to the catcher-he slide around the tag for the go ahead run. Ben finished the night going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Chris and Billy between them had nine assists to again turn in an error less-game.
Chaffey is now 8-0 in World Series play and will again play at 2:00PM tomorrow at San Diego State University.
